How many times have you been told that all you need for workout clothes are pieces that are loose and comfortable? While this may have been the case many years ago, today there are clothing items that are made specifically for working out, and they can actually help to improve workouts. Let’s take a look at what you need to know in order to choose the right gym clothes.
Did you know that the type of clothing you wear to the gym can play a role in how you feel after working out at an UP fitness center? It’s very important to wear the right gym clothes for the type of workouts you are doing. Some things to consider before going out and buying new gym clothes are how comfortable are they, the fabric they are made from, and the type of workouts you are doing.
How to choose the right fabric
The first thing to consider about your workout clothes is the fabric. Look for fabrics that will actually pull sweat away from the body instead of absorbing it. Look for fabrics that are breathable and have wicking. This means that they “wick” the sweat away from the skin, but they don’t absorb it, like cotton, which can feel wet and heavy after a while. Make sure you choose workout outfits made from breathable fabrics, and not that are made from materials that have a rubber or plastic base.
Get workout clothes that fit right
Whether you are working out in London or any other place, you need workout clothes that fit properly. If you are doing yoga, choose stretchy fabrics that are fitted and that have wicking. If you are cycling or running, look for clothes that are not too loose and that can get tangled up. Make sure gym pants are the correct length, so you don’t trip over them. Basically, you want your workout clothes to be made from comfortable fabric that is breathable, and that aren’t going to be too tight or too loose.
Consider the seasons
When you train fitness is your ultimate goal, and you don’t always think about how your workout clothes need to change with the seasons if you do a lot of your exercising outdoors. In hot weather, be sure to choose clothes made from fabrics that let your skin breathe, and that wick away the sweat. Cool, comfortable clothes are important in the summer, if you’re having extended stays out in the sun, so you can move around easily and not overheat. Other weather considerations include:
Cold weather – You will need to dress warm, but not so warm that your body temperature and heart rate will increase too much. Try dressing in layers, so you can remove items as you heat up.
Wet weather – If it is wet and windy when you are working out, find a lightweight, outer layer that will protect you from wind and rain.
No matter what you are wearing, if you are working out hard, you are going to work up a sweat. Make sure that you are wearing the clothing that makes you feel the most comfortable. You don’t have to look great. You just have to feel great.
