This past weekend EAT! held their annual foodie festival in Newcastle and Gateshead (where some people were actually walking around eating McDonald's hamburgers!) and I was sure to be there as they had a special cupcake event. Six local bakers specialising in the pretty little cakes set up their tasty tables - plus one which was selling the 'World Cuppies' contribution of each in honour of football - and I was so wishing I had extra arms to carry more home. In fact, I was so loaded down that I actually lost a cupcake! Oh, how it stings!
Ruby Rose Cupcakes had a scrumptious display of pink and chocolate treats including delish red velvet cupcakes of which I bought two, one for me and one for my daughter. Would you believe it was my first red velvet? This is how it looked at my kitchen table before I dove in head first:
A perfect cherry-topped cupcake from CupCake and Co. and how I do love some chocolate orange:
Cupcake Kitchen had lots of gorgeous cupcakes on display and I left with one of their lemon meringues. But they also had their Brownie Bar with three drool-inducing selections, and why I did not take one I haven't a clue. Obviously a serious lapse in judgement! They are looking to set up shop in Whitley Bay, a 10 minute walk from me. And if they do, I can guarantee my family and friends will be regular customers!
What a selection from Pet Lamb Patisserie, I couldn't keep my eyes still. They had ice cream cone cupcakes and two of my most favourite flavours: lemon & blueberry and pistachio. I adore pistachio. I took one of them home and wow, after the first taste I was wishing so hard that somehow the cupcake would regenerate after each bite. It didn't happen.
More yumminess from Pet Lamb Patisserie (above)
Lottie McPhees is one I know and love. Their lemon is my favourite but I left the tried and true for a gorgeous blueberry cupcake that I quickly scooped up - then left it on the next table! I will never forgive myself.
Oh look, it had blueberries in the cake and everything:
Meanwhile, back at home:
I saw this macaron with fresh raspberries at the Cafe 21 stall and it was love at first sight. They also had the best beef pies I've ever had. And yes, it tasted as good as it looks:
