The Swelle Life began eight years ago and became a collection of beautiful things to live with, wear, explore and eat, with original photography including backstage coverage at London Fashion Week and London Collections: Men.
For the first few years, the content was skewed toward the decorative, and over time it's evolved to focus on 'design', featuring the products, architecture and interiors that today's greatest talents have created to make our daily lives more enjoyable. I tend to focus on the lesser known names to champion the work of independent creatives who tend to be doing the most interesting things, to be honest.
Due to the switch from feminine to gender neutral, design-led content, the original blog name lost its meaning. In 2008 I loved the vintage word 'swell' but was very much into a feminine aesthetic at the time, as well as French culture - I'm half French-Canadian but Paris was a huge influence on me - so I added the 'e'. (No foresight with the interminable misspellings it would invite.) And swell as a verb tied in as well; I live on the coast of the North Sea, at a part which happens to boast some of the best surfing in the UK. But all of that is history now, and because transferring domain names is an incredibly risky trick to attempt, I rebranded to DesignSKOOL to reflect the learning aspect of the blog - I'm learning about design every day and sharing it with my readers.
I've also been working with Houzz.com for five fantastic years, contributing monthly Ideabooks for products, and now regular front-page features as an in-house writer. If you aren't familiar and you're into interiors, architecture, decor, anything to do with the home, head on over and I promise you'll be instantly hooked.
Thanks for reading. It's all about celebrating great design, inspiring imagery and anything else that make our lives a little bit nicer.
