Belightful Design, a Finnish eco-design company specialising in environmentally friendly outdoor products, has won the International Design Awards (IDA) with their first product. Belightful Butterfly Oasis invites butterflies to feed on the nectar inside, increasing their chances of survival in their rapidly declining natural environment. The colours are chosen for their attractiveness to butterflies and the feeder is made of recyclable materials. “Our Butterfly Oasis stands out from our competitors’ as it is designed specifically for butterflies. Due to the closed model of the feeder, nectar won’t evaporate that quickly, and it does not let unwanted bug-visitors feed from it”, explains Miia Liesegang, the CEO and designer of the company.
There is a rising demand for products combining nature and well-being, as well as an increasing interest in environmentally friendly alternatives for traditional plastic goods. The Belightful Butterfly Oasis uses a special bio-based material developed by Arctic Biomaterials. Also based in Finland, the company was recently named “Bio-based Material of the Year” in the Innovation Award 2018 competition held in Cologne.
In addition to being recognised at the IDA, Belightful Design's Butterfly Oasis has been awarded Best Business Idea in Sustainable Development at Formex, the largest Nordic interior design fair.
