Pantone has announced its colour of the year for 2017 and it's a zesty shade of yellow-green called Greenery. It's as much a symbolic decision as it is an aesthetic one; Pantone describes its annual shade of choice as "a color snapshot of what we see taking place in our global culture that serves as an expression of a mood and an attitude," and right now a life-affirming, restorative colour feels more like a necessity than a frivolous preference. Leatrice Eiseman, Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute says,"Greenery burst forth in 2017 to provide us with the assurance we yearn for amid a tumultuous social and political environment. Satisfying our growing desire to rejuvenate and revitalise, Greenary symbolises the reconnection we seek with nature, one another, and a larger purpose." Colour has a powerful effect on the psyche and I think we could all use a hit of Greenery in some form or another. You don't have to buy a new decor item, or paint an entire wall in it, you simply need to be aware of it to get the benefits. That invigorating, spring-feeling green is all around us. Slice open a ripe avocado or make your apples Granny Smith this week. The other night I was preparing some mangetout and when steamed it turns that perfect shade of fresh green. Eat it up!
