Cupcake Monday! Marie Antoinette Cake by Tess
With great delight I recently came upon the blog of cakemaker Tess who is based in the Netherlands. I nearly had an aneuryism when I saw this cake that she was commissioned to make for the Dutch magazine Mjam Taart. She was given free reign to create whatever she wanted, and chose to look to Marie Antoinette for her inspiration. It's a stunningly detailed three-tiered cake with 'jewels' and a dainty fan. The different shades of pale pinks with the aqua is just so pretty. Tess also has the loveliest collection of cake stands. I'd love to build my own collection, but then realised I don't usually have a cake in which to set it upon! I put my name down for cake decorating classes in the area several times but it seems they keep losing my number. I think it's time to try elsewhere and maybe yell at them a bit!
She uses a lot of aquas, minty green-blues and turquoises which I love, so I'll be featuring her again to give us our blue fix. See below for an amazing cake decorated with madeleines!
And following on the French theme we have Tess' gorgeous madeleine cake (I love the crispy chewiness and not-too-sweetness of madeleines!), finished with a pink and gold cameo:
And since we're talking about pink, here's Tess' vintage lace and ribbon cake. She has very realistically created the effect of the ribbon being woven through the cake:
