Cupcake Monday! The Corn on the Cob Edition
To borrow a phrase from an ailing Randy on South Park who had just been 'served', these corn on the cob cupcakes are "so original, so inventive ugh!" They're even, ugh... easy to make, too! Use yellow and white jelly beans for the peaches and cream corn (is there any other kind?), then add a square piece of Laffy Taffy for the butter, and finish with black decorating sugar and regular sugar for the salt and pepper. Now marvel at the incredible cuteness you have created!
Karen Tack, author of Hello, Cupcake! invented these neat-o summer treats and you can get the recipe and see her decorate them on Martha Stewart here.
This reminds me of a time when I was buying corn on the cob, still in the husks, at our local Co-op. There were two teenage girls on the tills. The one who was ringing me up picked up one of the ears with a screwed up face and asked, "What are these?" I said, 'It's corn on the cob' with a slight air of incredulousness and waited for some glimmer of recognition. It never came. "Well aren't they funny lookin'!" and then she showed the other girl who also hadn't seen corn on the cob before and concurred that they were indeed humourous in their appearance. They laughed while I looked around for the hidden camera. I don't know what was weirder, that they had never seen corn out of a can or that they didn't recognise something that was being sold in the store they worked in.
