One day, I found a book buried deep in the ground...
In my previous post about Bjork and Alexander McQueen's collaborative friendship I mentioned that her video for Bachelorette is my favourite of hers. It's actually my favourite video period and I wanted to share it. So I spent an obscene amount of time taking screen caps and paring down the images (believe it or not!) to tell the story and show the gorgeous imagery in both black and white and saturated colour. For me, this little film is endlessly inspiring and absolutely exhilarating, it hasn't lost a drop of its potency since I first saw it in 1997 when it was made.
As I ranted the other day, the YouTube of the video has been blocked thanks to Warner but if you find the video on her website here you can watch it in iTunes by clicking the download link under the credits - and in case it's not clear, I highly suggest you do! It's an incredible piece of art in every aspect - from the concept to the music to the cinematography to the editing to the set design and props. A brilliant collaboration between Bjork and director Michel Gondry.

I always kinda of saw this as a companion to Bjork's Isobel vid (also from Gondry), there just seems to be something about the mood of it that seems to find its match with this one

I adore Bjork and the Bachlorette video is phenomenal (although I am pretty much biased towards all her videos... and her movie). I saw the McQueen tribute the day after she posted it and thought it was the most touching one out of all of them. I do think she's an amazing artist and was fortunate to have met her once on tour back in 2000. Someone from her band convinced my friend and I to sneak in to the rehearsals so we witnessed a 2 hour soundcheck and said hi to her (we were the only ones in the hall... it was quite terrifying and we hardly dared breathe, because Bjork was so childlike... we actually didn't want to scare her). It was pretty surreal but she was so gracious and it's still one of my favorite experiences.

HW - What a fantastic story! How great an experience is that, and it's very interesting to hear how childlike she is in person. I wouldn't think of Bjork as someone who puts on an act as she seems so raw and genuine in her work, and I love that she's as she appears. Thank you for sharing that!
WH - I'd agree!
AWEIT - Thanks very much!
