LFW - Martin Lamothe's Collaborations in Sculpted Leather and Crocheted Chain
This may look like someone messing around with leather, making it spiky for some reason and leaving it up to you to make sense of it or just keep on going. But take another look at what a collaboration between Martin Lamothe and leather sculptor Sebastian Vecchio actually produced:
right sleeve
Isn't that incredible? I wanted to touch the horses heads but I couldn't bring myself to, as if they would collapse if I laid my fingers on them. They wouldn't have of course but they appeared so delicate despite their substance.
Here's how they were made by Sebastian Vecchio:
And two other pieces that were stunning examples of hand workmanship:
This piece was so heavy, it was essentially made with rope of varying thickness
Mercedes Fernandez Mesa crocheted silver, gold and copper chain which was then handstitched into pleated tulle. I was in awe after seeing these pieces.

omg i LOVE the horse heads! there's a horse head in your jacket...do do do

I love that rope sweater. Such great textures in all the pieces.

First of all- I love me some tulle. Secondly, anything with crocheted chains in it drives me crazy. So yeah, pretty much love the rich shabby-chic textures of these.

wonderful details! any idea what fluid they are soaking the leather in? they've got gloves on which made me wonder...

Kelly - I was wondering that myself, there were no descriptions with the images unfortunately. The website that was listed for Sebastian Vecchio in my press package has to be wrong - it seems to be a photography site but even when I clicked on the sub categories there was no actual content and I got weird placeholder pages. I did a quick google search for leather solutions but couldn't find anything definitive. It must be something that makes the leather very malleable but then hardens when it dries. Whatever that may be! The leather in person was however still beautiful, so that must be some magic solution!
If I come across it I will let you know!

doing some research i did see people referring to using water, but what if it got wet again? i guess i will just have to find some leather and try it myself!!! wouldn't it be beautiful over some ancient statuary - greek goddesses and cherub wings, medusa heads and sphinxes? sigh.

Kelly - Water? How simple! If you do try and you get good results you must share, I'd love to see! Good luck experimenting!

Just looking at this post again... really stunning and beautiful, but wondering if anyone else has noticed the gross hairy tattoo detail on the model's knees?

Argie - I did indeed but then I tried to forget about it!
