A Peek at Vanessa Paradis' Chanel Commercial
If you've been reading The Swelle Life for a while you know that I adore Vanessa Paradis (yes, she has her own category here) and have for about 20 years, so I jump all over any news, even if it's just a peek at an upcoming commercial. Last year she signed on with Chanel to be the face of Coco Rouge, a new lipstick collection from everyone's dream fashion house. And it may not be the most exciting imagery, but it's Vanessa and she looks fanatstic and that's good enough for me. And can I have that top, please?
The whistling is an homage to her songbird in a gilded cage advert for Coco in 1992 (which many people had a problem with. Please.):

I love that top too. It's really sweet and and I love that's it's so billowy. Perfect for a summer day or night. Is that metallic threading?

Oh, I adore her as well! I so remember seeing that birdcage commercial as a child and thinking I wanted to be like her. Needless to say I was a huge fan of Joe le Taxi as well ;-) I'm so glad she still has a music career, although her songs are rarely heard outside France. And she's perfect for Chanel. Is it me or has she hardly aged?
To answer your question re: Hong Kong: Yes, I have read Deluxe (great book) and it is very accurate. The big flashy stores really are predominantly there for the visiting tourists from mainland China. Hong Kong people are way more savvy and do what everyone else does (shop online or during sales). I never realized how bad it was until I stepped in a mall and saw the tourists sit in corners with literally 10-20 high-end shopping bags.. it's the equivalent of seeing Middle Eastern women clear the shelves in Harrods. I don't really think this would affect your spending habits though... the Pradas and Guccis are spread out throughout the city (one in each district), so they're just making it really convenient for those who are in HK for just a day and can get all their shopping done in one mall. Chanel has 5 stores in Paris' 8th arrondissement which is a lot more pointless considering they're 5 mins away from each other. I honestly don't think it would affect your spending habits though. They all have the same inventory and if anything, I think you'd probably get bored of seeing the same thing over and over again. It's like seeing an H&M at every street corner... having so many around doesn't make me want to buy their items more.

I remember the birdcage ad like it was yesterday.
