Nanette Lepore's Clothes for Wild Party Girls
Nanette Lepore was one of my favourites. I've got one of her adorable signature fitted jackets with the slightly puffed, bracelet length sleeves, sweetheart neckline and piped seams, and a cream jersey sleeveless top that is equally girlie and romantic with a silk bow tie-front. That's the kind of thing I look for in her new collections, reinvented. So I mostly skimmed past her Fall 09 offerings when I saw that she took a bit of a boho turn that was all over the place. Boho's never been me and I doubt it ever will be. I can see why people like it but it just doesn't connect to anything within my fashion heart (except for Anna Sui's lushly detailed prints which I've gone nuts for this year - but then again she's the queen).
Now, anyone who knows me knows I'm a jacket, dress and hat girl. And today I happened to come across Nanette Lepore's Wild Party dress, then her Party Girl jacket (I'm not sure the names fit?) which have put her back on my list of crushes and that suits me because I'm keen to be a lifer when it comes to my fashion loves. I think Bergdorf Goodman's product shot of the dress (used in my collage) is more appealing than the actual runway look, and that gorgeous jacket was absent from the line-up altogether, so it's no wonder I've been slow on the uptake on these two star pieces.
Speaking of stars, apparently 'Serena van der Woodsen' wore the Party Girl jacket in black on Gossip Girl which isn't surprising as Nanette Lepore has been a fixture in the casts' wardrobe since the beginning, and it's so Proper Lady gorgeous - with stud detail. I don't usually use celeb style shots because I just don't care about celebrity endorsement and am even adverse to it, but this isn't a vanity piece and it's styled well (of course). It's also tempting in the grey, no?
Well, I need to write more words so that the detail shot on the right over there doesn't run longer than the text, so, uh...how was your day? Have you started your Christmas/Hanukkah shopping yet? We're getting a tree this weekend, I think I want to do silver and white balls but I'm not sure what to put on top. This is our first Christmas in England as we've spent the last four in Canada with family so I'm really out of the loop when it comes to decorations. I imagine there are trends when it comes to trees so it'll be interesting to see what 'they' are doing. Let's see, need a few more lines...what else...I watched a show tonight about a three year-old girl who has gotten up every night for hours since she was 11 months old and her parents were nearly crazy. She had a rare ability to engage in imaginary friend play that was very real to her and was so much fun there was no incentive to stop! Okay, that should do it! Nice chatting!

i like all the pieces you've featured. and yes, i have started Christmas shopping. where to hide it all, is my question? and i'd say decorate your tree any way you wish - whatever makes you happy, yes?

Love the jacket. And I think the chatting away to fill the column is very funny ;-) No Christmas shopping here, we don't celebrate christmas with presents, but I do have to hurry up with the Sinterklaas gifts. It's almost december 5th! *shock*

The back on that party dress is just amazzzzzing. That and the lattice armseye.
Who knew Nanette Lepore could get so edgy!
Thanks for sharing.
