Where Marie Antoinette Slept
My time as of late has been spent packing, cleaning, worrying about our house being done enough to live in come tomorrow, and making decisions about how to decorate. I'm having the most fun with my daughter's room, looking for dressing tables, small and pretty chandeliers and anything that will help it look like the kind of room I would have loved to have growing up (or at least what the adult me thinks would have been awesome).
I've had these images of Marie Antoinette's bedroom at Versailles for some time and it's about time they made an appearance. There are two views here which look quite different as they come from two sources. In all the time I spent in Paris I unfortunately did not get a chance to visit Versailles (oh, how it stings!) because the queues were just ridiculous from before 9 a.m. I vowed to go back in off-season so I didn't have to take in what must be the most breathtaking spectacle of architectural opulence on this planet amidst packs of smelly tourists. Like me.
Looking at these images I can't help think 'But what more could they have done?' Ha.
I would love to chat more about this but the rest of the cleaning awaits. See below for more French/romantic bedrooms. Even the most beautiful of them will seem plain after your brain has adjusted to Marie's!
This one is kind of funny to me. I can't help but think this is what Fabio's bedroom looks like:
Okay, not a bedroom but I am so in love with this cabinet and this whole look. It's from The French Bedroom Company in England and I want it so bad but it's too wide for the space in our bathroom. I could just vomit with rage.
Oui! Oui! Oui!

I think Marie A's rooms are a little plain for me....

heh heh - that's so Wendy.
I think it's a bit ornate for me. But I love a chandelier!

If it were darker, it would be perfect for me. I'm not really a sparkly gold person...I prefer gloomy Biba-style interiors ;) Lush photos though!

lovely. seriously - the perfect post to accompany a day of fluffy cakes!
haha- Fabio - Fabio probably stages his shoots in there.
oh and he probably has an ornate wind machine stashed somewhere as well.
just. in. case.

YEAH: I don't think the Mr., who is fond of midcentury modern would be a big fan of this-- but I'm drawn to the froth fer sure :)

oh you have a lucky daughter! the room is going to be gorgggeous!
if i could reincarnate myself, it might just be to become marie antionette. except i would somehow outwit the french people and avoid the execution.
i too didn't get the chance to go to versailles when i was in paris a few years back. i must i must i must sometime soon!!

Wendy - I agree, it needs to be a bit more 'grand'
Alex - Yes, chandeliers are great. I insist on a minimum of three giant ones in my bedroom.
Miss P - now that I'd love to see!
Sara - ha ha! That image is hilarious! He brings a woman home and excuses himself for a moment only to return with his hair suddenly flowing in the breeze!
Pink - I'm coming to see!
Dee - The Mr. told me I could do what I wanted with the bedroom but I decided to be diplomatic and do something we'd both like. I can't wait to until we have a house with extra rooms! I also love midcentury modern, though!
Janis - Yes, it would be a nice existence for a certain amount of time! I'd be sure to flee to Switzerland before it got a bit, uh, tense!
Sofie - You're back! Oh yes, the French Bedroom Co is a dream. I too would love my own house filled with their furniture!
