Lainey Makes Our Hearts Beat Faster, Longer

Elaine Lui, known as our 'Lainey' of Lainey Gossip, is the beloved favourite of the gossip 'enthusiasts' who prefer our dish with loud (sometimes screaming) laughter, served up so fresh and so insightful that we actually feel smarter for having read it (as opposed to the usual effect of finding ourselves relating to the rotting cabbage forgotten in our fridge crisper). She's sharp and witty and we're fortunate to have her deliver us our guilt-free, gossipy goods. She's also mad for killer heels and appreciates what a gem we have in Karl Lagerfeld and his riotous way with words.

Lainey was recently invited to participate in The Heart Truth Red Dress event where Canadian celebrities and top fashion designers joined together to shine the spotlight on women’s heart health at the second annual Heart Truth Fashion Show at Toronto’s LG Fashion Week. She wore a 'Future Space Girl' dress made by Project Runway Canada season one winner and emerging talent Evan Biddell which she worked like a pro, as evidenced by the above photo (it's so easy to look like a tool up there yet Lainey pulled it off with cool elegance. Am impressed, but not surprised). And she did the show to help bring awareness to the cause so let's do ourselves a favour and see where we stand.

I just took the site's heart health quiz and it's a good reminder of what to avoid, be aware of and improve so we don't end up face down in our poutine. Did you know that in Canada, women are more likely than men to die of a heart attack or stroke? And that stroke kills 45% more women than men? Women are also 16% more likely than men to die after a heart attack. Surprised? Motivated to pay more attention to your heart health? Then a good deed has been done and you can pay it forward. It's well worth checking out the heart health stats for your country if you're outside Canada, but when it comes to the heart, what's good is good and what's bad is bad, and you can choose.
