Paper Towel Tuxedos and Hair Comb Dresses

Mmm_artisanal09_2

Martin Margiela showed his Artisanal collection for spring and went to the dumpster and the recycling bin for his materials. That sounds like I'm being a saucy little brat but if you're familiar with him you know he loves to create with common objects, like the ones you find around your house and don't think twice about. Last season he did a jacket in balloons and before that, a top made of mirrors. Now he's fastened old hair combs to create a dress (above, I think) and well, just take a look at what else:

And, not quite sure what these are made of as WWD only mentioned a few and I can't find coverage anywhere else...guesses?

And yes, those are actual models (in case you were half asleep like me and first thought they were mannequins)

Isn't his work amazing!!! I had to study him for my art foundation year and came across his waistcoat made of vintage cream leather gloves. And also a belero made from bowler hats. He just has the ability to come up with such original, unique garments with the most random objects!!!

OMG.!! What creative designs..! Those dresses are amazing!!

I totally didnt realise they were real people! I thought they were mannequins too! Oh dear!

The red dress is very Marni with those circles.

Loooove the denim dress! it's amazing, i'll have to try something in knit like that.

I have a feeling the black belero is a melted shaped bin bag... but i am not sure...
these are reallyr eally interesting pieces! scary how he always covers his models' eyes...

CFST, I was thinking it might be a black bin bag as well but couldn't figure out how they got the structure and controlled the etching of the design. I guess that's why he's Martin Margiela. The 'no eyes' is a bit disturbing, but at least their heads don't appear to be on backwards like some of the models in the spring show with long wigs over their faces. Nightmares!

Jen, that dress is very Marni spring 09, isn't it? I wonder what the circles came from. If you do try a dress like the denim one, you MUST let us know!!

Hey, this is pretty good stuff! Although this is my first visit here, I find your blog and your posts very insightful. Keep up the good work.
