Faye Dunaway Thirties Style

Old movies are great sources of fashion inspiration and I can't think of a better one than Bonnie and Clyde, directed by Arthur Penn. Faye Dunaway as outlaw Bonnie Parker became one of the sharpest iconic figures and is right up there with Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany's. But there's no need to choose a favourite, each displays a distinct style that draws upon the best of their respective decades.

Faye_portrait No one can wear a beret like the Faye Dunaway of the 60s (the film came out in 1967 and took place in the early 30s). And if you've seen the film you know how unsettling it is to be captivated by Dunaway's exquisite bone structure and the way she wore those incredible clothes as she and Clyde (Warren Beatty looking pretty good himself) are robbing and shooting people. Imagine yourself in that situation, you wouldn't know whether to scream or ask her where she shops.

Later, in the 70s, she expertly wore the style again in Roman Polanski's Chinatown - she was made for chic 30s fashion. And she should have been French.

For comparison, the real Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow, some time between 1932 and 1934 (they were ambushed and shot to death in their car by police in 1934):
