NY Fashion Week - Day 3 Favourite Looks

JonathanSaunders_8

Day 3 of NY Fashion Week saw the first of the heavy hitters, namely Diane von Furstenberg, whose show was the scene of some scrapes and ego bruises (see below). Surprisingly, it wasn't her collection that had me exlporing ways I could make money fast and legally, it was Brit Jonathan Saunders, whose colourful, playful dresses in sheens so stunningly gorgeous I was gasping out loud throughout viewing the looks. I could easily label any piece from his collection a favourite, but here is my short(ish)list of the absolute To Die Fors:

Diane von Furstenberg - first, the gossip. From WWD.com:

"The scene at the tents before the Diane Von Furstenberg show was a mash up of New York City boldfaced names — with the emphasis on “mash.” Toes were stepped on, ribs were elbowed and shoving matches nearly ensued as Tatum O’Neal, Eva Longoria Parker, Rosario Dawson and Carla Gugino took their seats in the front row near Lee Radziwill and Fran Lebowitz. Pride of place went to Jennifer Lopez and Uma Thurman, who were seated on either side of Barry Diller (Ed.note: that's DvF's husband). The A-list duo hid backstage until the last minute, emerging to a blizzard of flashes.

The mayhem was too much for some: After one photographer practically fell in his lap, Graydon Carter was overheard fuming, “Who cares? They are just actresses.”" Seriously, eh?

As for the collection, DvF unexpectedly went with a hippy, flower-chick look, although her show was titled "Rock Goddess". Hair strewn with silk flowers and feathers strung from leather cords really busied-up the outfits, most of which already appeared to be exploding with colour. I've included only one real 'flower child' look, just to show, as it's not my thing. But it's far from a charitable gesture to look for (and find) beauty in the happy, multi-coloured dresses in gorgeous silks, not to mention the wonderful smiles on the models:

DKNY - Brilliant colour and simple shapes make an irresistably cute mini dress for the younger market (and how great is this colour-block belt with this Mac):

Hervé Léger by Max Azria: Hervé Léger is known for their bandage dress, so Max and Lubov Azria (his wife, they are such a cute couple) played around with gray-scale effects and went diagonal with some designs to keep the tried-and-true favourite fresh. They also found a way to create an even sexier image for the brand with the bandage bathing suit (which are meant to be admired near water, not worn in it):

Lela Rose: jewel-tone silks and unstructured bow detail were a winning combination for these looks:

Sari Gueron: The Bejing Olympics were a major influece on this collection - bold, black, racerback slips and tanks contrasted nicely beneath beautiful lace dresses:

Tracy Reese: These looks are just so spring-fresh, like the first bloom after the ground has thawed (I know how lame that is but it's true!)

Y-3: Now, this is my kind of 'athletic' inspired dressing - sporty and wearable, smart and very versatile. I could wear these clothes for just about anything and I want to. (Sorry Alexander Wang, but I don't think my not liking your approach to 'athletic' will affect your future success either way):
