Help a Girl Out: Major Accessories Conundrum

Karens_dvf_dress-2

Remember Karen? The lovely Swelle girl with the covetable DvF Orioti Maxi dress? She's done the easy part, finding that most fabulous dress, and now the hard part: how to accessorise for a wedding (which can be loads of fun in itself if you find the right pieces).

Karen is asking for help and we decided to also put it to you, the Swelle reader. So don't be shy, come share your brilliant ideas for putting together her complete look!

As for me, here's my take on the dress: It's a stunning, floor-length chocolate and ivory dress of silk with a bold pattern - it stands strong on its own and requires very little styling (especially for a wedding). The pieces have to be just the right colour, shape and size.

So, I'd say nothing on the neck. I love a strapless dress worn bare (unless it's a wedding dress - not on a beach, or a gala event). For the wrists, I see a large, bold, solid colour bangle in a warm gold (cobalt or a minty green would be fab for a girls' night out). I found a great one at Mesooda (at only £9.99) which I especially love for it's thick square shape to contrast the circle pattern beautifully:

And for earrings, you could do a gold hoop, or maybe a triple hoop design like these from Heavenly Treasures (14k gold and pricey but you get the idea), which would look great with Karen's amazing precision bob:

That's all I'd do for the jewelry. And I'm not sure if she needs a bag but if you do, Karen, I'd go for an understated clutch in a chocolate fabric, like silk or satin, that matches the dress. And shoes, well, you won't really see them but I think something gold and strappy will do the trick.

I wasn't thinking of a jacket at first, it'll likely be hot and muggy for this Toronto wedding. However, I found the most darling cropped Chloe jacket on Net-a-Porter (at £589 it's such a tease and Karen is no doubt giving me the finger via her monitor right now. I'm sorry, Sweetheart, it's just a guideline!):

So, Swelle readers, how do you weigh in? We eagerly await your brilliant ideas, I'm very curious as to what you'll dream up!

I definitely think gold is a better option with brown – if it was for a more casual look I would have maybe suggested a wooden bangle but for a weddings its nice to have something a bit fancy – either a big chunky bracelet or a number of smaller bangles would be good. Definitely no necklace as that would be overkill and some earrings would be great – I would be tempted to go for big statements ones but maybe that’s not quite right for a wedding but I do love my big earrings! In relation to cover – normal shawls/ wraps are good but as the dress has quite a bit of material that may be to much so a little fitted/ cropped jacket would be better – although with such a lovely dress and as its long (and I am guessing it will be hot in summer) I would be tempted to go without, especially as she has nice long, slim arms. In regards to a bag I would go for either brown or cream as I think matching a gold bag with jewellery would be too much – unless it’s a very subtle one or a vintage type clutch like in your other post (I love those bags!).
